Born in 1960, Buwa Shete graduated in Applied Arts from Abhinav Kala, Pune, in 1983. After working as a creative director and illustrator in advertising, he continued to develop his painting practice. His calendar series on the philosophy of various saints earned him a London Advertising Award. In his paintings, everyday relationships and familiar figures, from mothers and children to village men and priests, become vibrant modernist compositions. Bold colour, strong brushstrokes and expressive scale give his work a distinctive energy, sometimes bordering on the fantastical. His notable works include the Mother series and Serenity.
